La place de la Comédie
The vibrant heart of Montpellier just 5 minutes from the hotel
No visit to Montpellier would be complete without discovering Place de la Comédie, just a 5-minute walk from the hotel. Created in 1755 and rebuilt after two successive fires, it is now one of the largest pedestrian areas in Europe, covering 13,500 m². The locals even call it ‘the egg’, in reference to its oval shape.
Surrounded by 19th-century bourgeois buildings and dominated by the classical façade of the Opéra Comédie, the square is centred around the Fountain of the Three Graces. Its distinctive appearance has become the symbol of Montpellier, instantly recognisable on postcards. Take a moment to admire the architecture that makes it one of the most beautiful squares in France.
The square is equally renowned for its lively atmosphere, bustling terraces, street performers and cultural events. Take a seat at one of the many cafés or brasseries surrounding the square and soak up the unique energy of the city centre.
A true hub, it provides easy access to the cobbled streets of the Écusson and Le Corum conference centre.
